Ski Resort Reviews Austria
(7 Nov 2002): I worked in Bad Gastein, for two seasons in the hotel Bristol and Landhaus for First Choice. (1999/2000, 2000/2001) This resort exceeded my expectations, and if i ever get a chance to work there again, i would jump at the chance. The reason being is the superb range of mountains on offer, espeically sportgastein and graukogel, also apres is great, espeically oslagsbar, haegobloms and Silver Bullet. The good thing about this resort, though, is that it is not well known to the british market, which is one of the reasons it is cheaper then say Kitzbuhel and St Anton. If anyone is wanting to work a seasin or go on holiday to Austria, then make this your number one choice.
(27 Apr 2002): If you are going to visit Saalbach you have to go to Hinterhagalm to visit the best afterski in the alps. And in the late evening Castello is a place to meet good-looking swedish girls... Dont miss the kebab in Bobby?s. The skiing in Saalbach can be really good, but it depends if there are snow or not. In Saalbach you never know... Enjoy skiing while it lasts, beacause it never does.
(2 Aug 2002): Hello, to all skiers/snowboarders out there. Yust checked out your website and as I saw Bad Mitterndorf was named i knew that I had to write you. I skied a lot of areas but I always love to come to Bad Mitterndorf. You have one of the best muggle slope I know and great possibilities for back country skiing. There is always great snow and if the skiingday ends, party starts. So check it out! Ride on.
Ramsau is one of those special places that when found, you return to year after year. Above you is the Dachstein glacier, below there is the town of Schladming. Downhill aplenty but with superb local Langlauf facilities. Ramsau is a gem that one tries not to advertise but cannot help but praise. When asked where you have been, you just say "Austria". Best accessed by car.
(10 May 2001)Once again had some great skiing Feb 2000 and Feb 2001. All the avalanche damage has been sorted. Excellent beginner and intermediate skiing for those who don't need to ski a new piste everytime. Good place to learn and improve. See my preious report.
(18 Nov 2004): Well, 2 months until we return to Soll on 5th Feb 2005 after a great holiday there last year. 4 of us went, 20 plus good friends were accumulated during the week as a result of our ski class and their own mates in different groups. Fantastic scenery , good skiing for us beginners , a really good ski school and instructor , Zoe , a pleasant hotel in the Eggerwirt with nice but quite small rooms but lovely food and excellent staff. Highlights also included the Salven Stadl at 4.00 onwards , the Whisky Muhle and it's firm but fair Scottish Manager Dave , (don't walk across the stage as a shortcut laddie)! and the organised pub crawl amongst many others. Hope to see some familiar faces next year , including 4 Scots lads returning with us from last years group , and I'd recommend this highly as a good all rounder resort for everyone.
If you want to see untouched powder, go to the Schlick 2000-resort in the Stubai at Fulpmes. In spring 1998 there were 1,5 metres of powder, skiing and snowboarding was great. Prices are generally lower than in other resorts, perhaps because there are only 7 lifts.
St. Anton’s skiing and boarding are legendary, attracting winter sports fans from all over the world to the Arlberg area of western Austria, one of the places where Alpine skiing began nearly a century ago. St. Anton is lift linked to St Christoph, where the snow is skiable into May, and on the same pass as Lech and Zurs (a short bus ride away). The vast ski area includes many spine tingling off-piste descents and over 160 km (100 miles) of off-piste, ungroomed routes. There is plenty of skiing for all ability levels - it’s just that there’s far more tough and exciting skiing than almost anywhere else.
(12 Jan 2005)This resort was awesome. It was the first time I have been to Austria and the first time I have been ski-ing. It was great fun and after a few days I found the gentle slopes quite easy - came home with no broken bones ! I met Uli Spiess who was once a world olympic gold medalist and if I go again I will probably stay in his hotel as we spent much time there in his bar. Great fun and highly recommended. Scott
I start to traveling to Kleinwalsertal 10 years ago, first to walk and bike and later for snoboarding. And I must say that I love it. Because you can have parties if you want. But you can also have a not so action-filled holiday trip. And I think for snowboarders it is a paradise with fun parks, halfpipes and much powder. Everyone has to be there!! See you next season!
